Business Legal Research

This course will provide students with an introduction to business and federal tax law related materials and advanced research training on locating and using these materials. Topics covered will include primary sources of business and federal tax law, secondary sources for business and federal tax law, business and securities forms and filings, and competitive intelligence.

Kentucky Refugee Ministries Externship

This externship will provide law students practical experience in the areas of humanitarian and family-based immigration law under the guidance of a practicing attorney. By the end of their externship experience, students will be able to meet with potential and existing clients, perform initial and subsequent client interviews, prepare legal research memos on assigned client based topics, and submit factually accurate and complete immigration applications.

Immigration Law Externship

This externship provides students guided practical experience in immigration law practice. This experience is provided in a live-client setting requiring students to conduct intake and interview, research and evaluation of claims, follow-up with clients, preparation of immigration applications, and administrative appeals. The work is done under the guidance of attorneys at the Maxwell Street Legal Clinic.

Electronic Resource Management

Electronic resources include all those systems (databases) and works (ebooks, periodicals) that are collected, described, provided, and managed by librarians and information specialists. Electronic resource management is therefore the management of these resources and this course examines the complexities involved with this activity. Topics covered include electronic resource systems, standards, processes and work flows, licenses, negotiations, access, evaluation, and usability.

Live Streaming

This course explores the culture and practice of live streaming, with a particular emphasis on Twitch. Through a hands-on approach, it leads students from the various stages of live streaming - account creation, content production and delivery, audience garnering, engagement accruing and multiple possibilities of monetization. Besides Twitch, it will also examine other popular game streaming platforms such as Smashcast, Discord, YouTube, and Gosu Gamers. Interest and experience in gaming and esports a plus, but not required.

Diversity And Society In Video Games

Students will learn about critical approaches to diversity in video games as well as the "serious games" and game for change movement. Drawing on academic disciplines like "Critical Race Technology" studies, Feminist theory of Technology and Queer Theory this class will explore the industrial, aesthetic and social implications of issues of representation in video games.
