Creative Writing Students Respond to COVID-19 Through Poetry

National events burst into the curriculum of the University of Kentucky when precautions over the novel coronavirus drove instruction online. As the students of Julia Johnson’s large-lecture core creative writing class in UK’s College of Arts & Sciences saw their lives upended, she felt they needed an outlet to express their fears, emotions, and hopes.

The Impact of the Pandemic and Protests on 2020 Elections

Stephen Voss and Michael Zilis, professors in the Department of Political Science, in conversation with A&S Dean Mark Kornbluh will discuss how the coronavirus pandemic and recent protests are impacting state elections, the presidential election, voting access and voter turnout, changes in campaign strategies, and legal actions surrounding voting rights.

East European Politics

This course is meant to provide an opportunity for advanced undergraduates and graduate students to (1) understand the historical, socioeconomic and philosophical context of the communist party states in Eastern Europe, (2) to learn who governs in Eastern Europe and the structures through which they rule, (3) to assess the "dynamics" of communist politics, i.e., factors contributing to political change vis-a-vis political continuity.
