Bio Respon To Hlth Probs

This course focuses on concepts and theories that assist in the understanding of biological responses of adults to health problems. The course draws on previous knowledge of physiology and pathophysiology and the ability of participants to integrate behavioral and biological phenomena. Approaches to nursing diagnosis and intervention to support and/or modify these responses to health problems are emphasized within the context of clinical decision- making.

Biological Phenomena In Acute Illness

This course focuses on the biological phenomena of concern to nursing acutely ill patients. Phenomena common to the management of acutely ill, high intensity adults and elders are addressed by students pursuing advanced practice in high intensity environments. Research generated from biological and nursing sciences is applied to the diagnosis, decision analysis, and intervention for acutely ill adults and elders.

Bio/Behavioral Phenomena In Chronic Ill

This course focuses on the biological and behavioral phenomena of concern to nursing chronically ill patients. Phenomena common to the management of chronically ill adults and elders are addressed by students pursuing advanced practice in high acuity environments. Research generated from biological, behavioral and nursing sciences is applied to the diagnosis, decision analysis, and intervention for chronically ill adults and elders.

Acute&chronic Illness Nur Therapeutcs II

This course deals with advanced practice nursing care for adults with acute and chronic illnesses and their families. Emphasis on understanding the conditions influencing patient/family quality of health and the consequences of disease and its treatment continues. Symptom interpretation and management are explored. Nursing therapeutics are examined for their effectiveness in managing symptoms and enhancing quality of health. The clinical experience provides opportunities to analyze selected roles in APN by working with other healthcare professionals.

Adv Pra Nur Care Critically Ill Adults

The didactic portion of this course focuses on the assessment, differential diagnosis and management of critically ill adults. Emphasis is placed upon biological, behavioral and advanced nursing concepts and research in order to facilitate the management and evaluation of therapies for critically ill adults and their families. The clinical portion of this course focuses on the care of critically ill adults in high acuity environments.

Measuring & Documenting Nursing Practice

This course provides the knowledge and skills essential for advanced practice nurses to evaluate patient care. A systematic approach to collecting information related to nursing practice provides nurses with opportunities to substantiate their contributions to advanced practice. Measuring, documenting, and reporting patient, family, and organizational outcomes will be addressed. Mechanisms for evaluating nursing practices with regard to available resources also are examined. Clinical experience provides opportunities to continue to work with adults with acute and chronic illnesses.

Adv Parent-Child Nur I

This seminar focuses on biopsychosocial concepts and theories related to the nursing care of children, adolescents, and their families. Students are expected to become familiar with research findings and literature applicable to parent-child nursing.

Advanced Parent-Child Seminar

The student will focus on evaluation of relevant beliefs, concepts, and theories related to maximizing the health of the family from pre- conception through adolescence. Using evidence-based literature, the student will explore physiologic, pathophysiologic, cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial concepts, theories, and issues for their relevance in providing innovative approaches to family health care. Attention will be directed toward economic, ethical, cultural, legal, political and geographic factors that influence health behavior and care delivery.
