Research In Applied Environmental And Sustainability Studies

Students will complete a significant research project in environmental and sustainability studies that includes reviewing relevant literature and collecting data. Students will design an independent research project using recognized research methodology and will collect and analyze data under the guidance of their faculty advisor and graduate committee. A learning contract with project clearly defined must be approved by supervising faculty member.

Reporting Research In Applied Environmental And Sustainability Studies

This course is part of the Plan B Capstone option for the MA in Applied Environmental and Sustainability Studies. Students will report on the significant research project in environmental and sustainability studies that they conducted in ENS 695 under the guidance of their faculty advisor. Students will complete a report on their research in a format agreed upon with their faculty advisor.

Internship In Applied Environmental And Sustainability Studies I

Students pursuing the Plan B Internship option in the MA in Applied Environmental and Sustainability Studies are required to complete six credit hours of internships in order to graduate and must work 40 hours for each credit hour earned. While students are ultimately responsible for finding and completing their internships, students do receive ample support and assistance from program faculty throughout the process. The activities to be carried out during internships must be mutually agreed upon by the student, their faculty supervisor, and the host organization supervisor.

Bees And People

Bees are a charismatic group of insects with important roles in human society. They are critical crop and wild flower pollinators, and have been cultivated for pollination, honey, and wax production for thousands of years. Some bee species live in social groups, including the honey bee, which lives in one of the most complex societies in the animal kingdom. This course will focus on bee biology, diversity, behavior, and basic beekeeping to teach students about scientific approaches in diverse areas of biology.

Media Technology, Families, And Society

This course examines the complex, bi-directional relationship between media technology, families, and society. Students will explore modern day media influences and discern ways new technology has shaped and changed the landscape of family life, societal norms and practices, socio-economic structure, and access to information. Course content will emphasize competencies applicable to professional practice in education and outreach. Students will learn how to develop research- and evidence- based recommendations for individuals and families impacted by media- related issues.

Independent Work In Family And Consumer Sciences

This course is designed as an intensive independent scholarship or training in family and consumer sciences geared to individual needs, interest, aptitudes, and desired outcomes. Students are provided the opportunity to gain or enhance family and consumer sciences knowledge and to explore an area of interest related to family and consumer science research or the delivery and/or administration of family and consumer science programming. A specific topic in family and consumer sciences related to the student's interests and program needs is selectd for intensive study.
