Experiential Learning In Women's Health: Part II

The intent of the Part II Experiential Learning in Women's Health course is to use knowledge learned in the classroom and during Part I and further understanding and skills applied to women in healthcare settings to facilitate wellness, prevention and recovery to maximize women's health. Students will learn to further apply the basics of motivational interviewing as well as the fundamentals learned in class to assess and counsel on issues related to active women's health.

Nutrition And Chronic Diseases

Selected topics in nutritional sciences related to health and chronic diseases, e.g., autoimmune conditions, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity and cancer. This course will explore the pathophysiology of chronic diseases influenced by nutrition and discuss mechanisms underlying nutritional approaches for prevention and intervention.

Professional Issues In Speech Language Pathology

This course addresses professional issues in speech-language pathology as they relate to various employment settings including public school, healthcare, and private practice. Topics will include professional ethics, cultural competence, professional practice documents, service delivery models, billing and coding, job exploration, resumes, interviews, credentialing, legal considerations, and professional advocacy. Content will be in accordance with the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Scope of Practice, Code of Ethics and guidelines for credentialing.

Motor Speech Disorders

This 2 credit graduate course focuses on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of motor speech disorders (MSDs) in individuals from birth through adulthood. The course will address oral sensory disorders, developmental delays, and MSDs secondary to neurological damage and disease with particular emphasis on dysarthria and Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAD). The course will also address the dysarthrias resulting from acquired brain injury (e.g. stroke and trauma) in adulthood and progressive and non-progressive diseases of the nervous system.

Supervision In School Psychology II: Application For Practice

The objectives of this seminar include 1.) Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of supervision models and practice, 2.) Students will be able to identify and articulate a personal supervision model, 3.) Students will be able to apply their personal supervision model and 4.) Students will be able to identify areas of growth and areas in need of improvement with respect to their professional supervision skills.
