Ind Study In Nursing

An elective course that provides students with an opportunity to explore a topic of interest under the direction of a faculty member. The end result should be negotiated between students and faculty and should yield a scholarly product. The minimum number of hours to be spent on the project and the means of evaluation will be decided before beginning the project. May be repeated to a maximum of 12 credits.

Dental Biochemistry

This is a comprehensive course in biochemistry designed to fulfill the specific needs of student dentists. Course content is generally as outlined in the American Association of Dental Schools suggested curriculum guidelines for biochemistry. Part I acquaints students with the chemical constituents of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; topics include the chemistry of lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and coenzymes, and the nature of enzyme action.

Introduction-Temporomandibular Disorders

This course is designed to provide graduate students and dental residents with a basic understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and function of the masticatory system. The anatomy, epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis, and management considerations of temporomandibular disorders are emphasized. Upon completion of the course, the student should be knowledgeable in the process of assessment and treatment planning for patients with common temporomandibular disorders.

Basic Clinic Mgmt Of Temporo Disorders

This course is designed to provide graduate students with a foundational understanding and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders. This course will provide basic clinical knowledge and experiences in the assessment, treatment planning and treatment execution for patients with various temporomandibular disorders. Emphasis will be placed upon basic history taking and clinical examination of patients with common temporomandibular disorders and employ clinical procedures.

Orofacial Pain Tx Planning

The purpose of this course is to expose the student to a wide variety of orofacial pain problems, to identify and discuss important aspects of history taking and examinations and to critically assess the need for additional information. Each student will present his/her new patient seen that morning to fellow students, orofacial pain faculty and psychology faculty. The student will formally present the detail findings in the case and defend a treatment strategy. The student will learn to provide alternative treatment options.

Elective: Ophthalmology

Fourth Year Curriculum and Student Progress Committee, the fourth-year student may choose approved electives offered by the various departments in the College of Medicine. The intent is to provide the student an opportunity to develop his fund of knowlege and clinical competence.

Elective: Ophthalmology Off-Site

This course is for the senior medical student who desires exposure to the practice of ophthalmology in a community setting. An emphasis will be placed on gaining knowledge of common diseases affecting the visual system. In addition to learning more about diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with ophthalmic disease, the student will also be exposed to the lifestyle of a community practitioner and observe the nature of relationships with other physicans as well as other health care professionals.

Elective: Ophthalmology - Nky

With the advice and approval of the faculty adviser and the Student Progress and Promotions Committee, the fourth-year student may choose approved electives offered by the various departments in the College of Medicine. The intent is to provide the student an opportunity to develop their fund of knowledge and clinical competence. To meet curricular demands, all students in the College of Medicine are required to own or have reliable access to a laptop computer meeting the minimum performance standards.

With the advice and approval of the faculty adviser and the Student Progress and Promotions Committee, the fourth-year student may choose approved electives offered by the various departments in the College of Medicine. The intent is to provide the student an opportunity to develop their fund of knowledge and clinical competence. To meet curricular demands, all students in the College of Medicine are required to own or have reliable access to a laptop computer meeting the minimum performance standards.
