Clinical Experience In Rural Health

This course is designed to be an immersive clinical experience for core principle students to introduce them to rural health. The only way to truly understand the barriers facing rural communities is to learn in an environment impacted by limited resources and transportation challenges. Students will have the opportunity to explore rural healthcare in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, primary care, surgical care, subspecialty care, and home visits.

Introduction To Clinical Medicine 1

Introduction to Clinical Medicine 1, a course of a two-semester sequence, is designed to provide first-year medical students with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes about the doctor/patient relationship that are necessary to practice patient- centered care. This course will introduce students to patient-centered communication and interviewing skills, along with ethics, health equity, and behavior change topics through active learning approaches including small group discussions, clinical experiences, and practice with simulated patients (SPs).

Behavioral Basis Of Medicine

The Behavioral Basis of Medicine delivers key concepts from Psychiatry, Pharmacology, and Behavioral Science in a mostly lecture-based format. Students are introduced to psychiatric conditions, to the observations that lead to a psychiatric diagnosis, and to some of the pharmacologic, psychotherapeutic and psychosocial modes of treatment.
