Elective: Extramural Rotation In Internal Medicine

Clinical electives allow students to gain exposure to medical specialties reflecting their career interests. Extramural electives allows students to experience clinical care in different environments at different institutions. Through this extramural clinical elective, the student will complete a clinical rotation in Internal Medicine at another institution. The specific rotation details and institution must be approved by the course director.

Acting Internship: Family Medicine In Morehead

As part of the fourth-year course offerings in the College of Medicine, this primary acting internship is designed to provide students with an advanced level of direct patient care responsibility, greater than that required during a third-year clerkship or fourth-year elective. During this course, the student will assume direct responsibility for management of patient care, and with the appropriate oversight of supervising physicians, assume the responsibilities of a first-year intern.

Global Public Relations Strategies

This course will focus on the role, function and influence of public relations in a global environment. Topics include culture, global trends, multicultural communication knowledge, national media structures and public policy, and international legal and ethical codes in public relations. Global case studies are used to develop and implement strategic and creative communications plans.

Healthcare Managers: Write, Speak, & Create

This course prepares CLM majors for their careers by further developing effective written, oral, and visual/digital communication skills, applied specifically to today's healthcare management environment. Students will communicate effectively based on audience analysis in face-to-face and online settings; deliver effective formal public healthcare presentations (informative and persuasive) based on audience analysis and using a variety of presentational aids that enhance the message. This course provides GCCR credit for the CLM program.

Health Information Management

The course is designed to introduce challenges facing managers of integrated healthcare information systems and delivery networks. Specifically, the course will address the following: A.Overview of the field of health informatics and its specialty fields B.The role of health informatics in day-to-day management and practical applications of information systems in health care C.Current trends that impact the design and evolution of healthcare informatics

Introduction To Health Care Management

The purpose of the course is to provide an integrated approach to understanding management in a variety of healthcare organizations (HCOs). This course highlights the major functions of healthcare managers and introduces students to the skills necessary to be successful managers. It also serves a foundation for the leadership series of courses that come after this course in the major.

Financial Management For Fundraising

Financial management is a central function of successful nonprofit fundraising. In the nonprofit sector, the concept of contributed income is a key framework that must be understood by fundraisers and will be emphasized in this course. In addition, professional fundraisers are the source of financial information to both internal and external stakeholders, and successful financial analysis is essential for sound strategic planning and governance.

Industrial Energy Utilization And Assessment

This course considers energy use in industrial settings - including energy flows and energy transformations. Students will learn methodologies for assessing, analyzing, and reducing energy use and cost in industrial facilities and auxiliary equipment. The content presented in this course is intended to be consistent with the US Department of Energy Industrial Assessment Center program methods. Students will learn how to perform energy assessments in real engineering settings.
