Residency credit for dissertation research after the qualifying examination. Students may register for this course in the semester of the qualifying examination. A minimum of two semesters are required as well as continuous enrollment (Fall and Spring) until the dissertation is completed and defended.

Seminar in special topics: includes genres and subject matters such as ssymbolism which cover more than one period of literature. Recent topics: symbolism and allegory. May be repeated up to 9 credit hours under different subtitles.
Independent work devoted to study and research on specific subjects and problems according to the interests and needs of individual students. May be repeated to a maximum of nine credits.
Under special conditions selected students may investigate specific environmental issues and problems. The instructor and the student will agree on a formal semester plan/learning contract, which will be filed with the Environmental Studies Program Director and will include weekly reports to the instructor.
The accelerated study of elementary French through reading, writing, listening, speaking, and cultural competence. This course combines the material of FR 101 and FR 102 and is designed for students who are motivated beginners or have had one or two units of high school French and would like a review.
