An overview of the various aspects of development in the social context for children prenatally through adolescence. Course will emphasize techniques of directed observation. Lecture, three hours, laboratory, one hour per week.

Training in the development and use of commercially available and teacher made assessment devices and techniques suitable for teachers to administer. Includes observations, standardized tests, portfolio development, and transdisciplinary assessment, used by teachers of young children.

This course is the field-based component of the Early Childhood block (IEC 507, 508 and 509). This course provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate application of readings and content from the Early Childhood block courses.
