Top & Meth Of Evaluation

An examination of a subset of evaluation methods, topics, and problems. An introductory course in the area with minimal emphasis on quantitative methods. The course is designed to: provide a perspective from which evaluation studies may be viewed; and, to provide experiences for those who will learn from or conduct evaluations.

Philosophy Of Education

The course is designed to enhance the professional educator's competence in analyzing and evaluating educational policies and programs. Theoretical frameworks, philosophical methods, and current educational debates are examined. May be repeated once to a maximum of six credits.

History Of Higher Eductn

Social and institutional history of higher education which will include selected topics in European culture and education and which will emphasize the development of the American college and university. This is a Distance Learning (DL) course that will be offered via formats and media provided by the University of Kentucky Distance Learning Center. It will be asynchronous in character, using standard Distance Learning internet capabilities.

Diversity In Higher Education

This course examines how various aspects of post-secondary education are impacted by diversity, power, and privilege. While race and ethnicity are foregrounded in this course, students also engage in readings and critical discussions regarding the role of gender, socio-economic, religious, sexual orientation, and able-bodiedness on issues such as post-secondary access, the college student experience, college/university curricula, higher education policy, and administrative practices.

Policy Issues In Higher Education

In this course, we will consider some of the most pressing policy issues facing American higher education. Topics include access, equity, and diversity; college costs and affordability; accountability and assessments; new forms of higher education (e.g., online education or for-profit colleges); commercialization of higher education. Along with visiting these substantive topics, students will become familiar with theoretical perspectives of policy-making processes and analytic tools for policy analysis.

Manuscript Writing

This course is intended to familiarize students with the advanced academic writing process and expectations. Topics will vary each semester and may include advanced topics in the areas of manuscript writing, proposal development, grant writing, and evaluation report writing. Other specific writing topics may also be explored.

College Tching & Lrning

A study of all phases of instruction at the college level. The course will include methods and principles of teaching, utilization of materials in teaching, a consideration of the teaching-learning process as it relates to the individual student, and the evaluation of student progress. A comprehensive course for prospective college teachers.
