This course will present the basics of teaching and learning within a community setting. Community learning and development, community-based education and community education will all be explored, as well as effective teaching methodologies outside of the classroom. Students will learn innovative, unique teaching techniques through hands on instruction in a variety of community settings.

This is a cooperative educational program between Leadership for Community Education & Learning (LCE) majors at the University of Kentucky and approved community organizations that collaborate with senior-level students within a chosen professional field. Students will work with their organizational placements to develop a "focused" professional project to be completed throughout the semester.

EDL 582 is focused using theory as a lens through which to understand the central questions, logic, and values that underpin how policy is understood and supported by analysts and researchers in the field of early childhood education and care (ECEC). Throughout the course, theories and policy tools will be applied to real-world examples, providing concrete opportunities to examine different, sometimes competing, analytic approaches and the contexts in which they are applied.

EDL 583 is designed to provide a foundational knowledge of the fundamentals of policy creation, design, and development, with an emphasis on those policies that impact early childhood education and care (ECEC).

EDL 620 is the first course in a two-part sequence that presents concepts and procedures to design, implement, and conduct action research in educational organizations. Emphasis is placed on key attributes of participatory action research and processes for identifying a problem of practice that can be addressed through the action research process. 

This course explores multiple strategies for instructional coaching and mentoring and their relationship to educational leadership, school improvement, and student learning.

EDL 646 explores issues in administering integrated support programs in schools and districts serving specific student or community populations while increasing school and community collaboration.

This course focuses on the role of educational administrators in creating and sustaining a culture of learning that ensures all students have access to an academically rigorous, relevant, and engaging education through the use of appropriate digital technologies. Prereq: Admission to the program or consent of instructor.

Study of diverse strategies and protocols used to identify authentic problems of practice in educational settings, diagnose potential options, determine innovation solutions, and assess impact by using diverse data sources.

Study of strategic management procedure applications in school administration utilized at both the school district and individual school site levels.
