In this class you will investigate the basic principles relating to the nature and production of musical sound. An understanding of these principles will enable you to make meaningful comparisons among sounds, appreciate how the characteristics of sound are dependent on the way it is created, and apply your knowledge in making health conscious decisions concerning the sound environment in which you live. In addition, you will gain some understanding of the acoustical principles in the design of instruments and performance spaces.

This course is an introduction to basic terminology related to human anatomy with an added emphasis on applications of this information to multiple aspects of the practice of music therapy. Students will learn to identify important physical components of anatomical systems and relate knowledge of human systems to personal health and wellness, needs of client populations, music performance, music therapy research, and human physiology.

A review and continued development of basic listening skills, and the ability to comprehend aurally harmonic function within a tonal framework and musical structures, both micro-structures and macro-structures. May not be used to satisfy major requirements for Bachelors degrees in the College of Fine Arts. Lecture, two hours per week.
