Cultural Perspectives On Sustainability

Examines cultural dimensions within the concept of sustainability through a close reading of texts addressing the relationship between people and nature. The application of cultural constructs used by individuals and societies in experiencing, interpreting and impacting the natural world are studied. Insights and observations of noted writers on environmental issues are discussed in relation to the interdependence between individuals, civilizations, and nature.

Lighting

Students explore principles and design requirements and applications of daylight and electric lighting as utilized in interior environments. Students investigate methods of light generation, lighting controls, product analysis, high performance lighting selection, and specification.

Environmental Systems

Students explore fundamental concepts of electrical, mechanical, thermal, and acoustical systems of buildings and how they enhance the health, safety, welfare, and performance of building occupants. Students examine fundamentals of indoor air quality; sustainability standards related to environmental systems; and fire detection and suppression systems.
