Black Women in Local Politics

It is well past time to celebrate and give recognition to the place African American women have created within the U.S. political history. As we celebrate the victory of Lori Lightfoot becoming the first African American woman mayor of Chicago, we also remember that it was half a century ago when Shirley Chisholm became the first African American woman to serve in the U.S. Congress. Let us not overlook the local African American women who are adding to the foundation of the political landscape.

Interdisciplinary Journal on Violence Commemorates 25 Years of Excellence

How does a journal unravel the threat of violence against women and the many forms of violence in women's lives throughout the world?

The Violence Against Women journal tackles this complex topic by shedding light not only on the forms of violence that are widely discussed, but also on the lesser known forms of violence. After 25 years of publications, this international journal is now ranked ninth among journals focusing on women's studies and cited more than 3,400 times.

Basic Clin Chemistry

The study of the theory and practice of clinical chemistry laboratory testing, including quality control, instrumentation principles, problem- solving, and appreciation of accuracy of and confidentiality for patient laboratory findings.

Basic Hematology

The theory and practice of clinical hematology laboratory testing, including manual and automated procedures, instrumentation principles, quality assurance, and problem-solving. Hematopoiesis, hemostasis, and blood cell function are discussed as they relate to clinical laboratory practice. Special emphasis is placed on the relationship of clinical hematology testing to pathophysiology and on the acquisition of valid test results.

Basic Immunohematology

An introduction to the principles and practice of blood banking follows a review of classic genetics and fundamentals of immunology. The course includes didactic instruction in blood group systems; donor selection and component preparation; antibody detection and identification and compatibility testing.

Basic Clin Microbiology

The study of medically significant microbiology, including commensal flora, normal flora and pathogens. Lectures also cover microbial physiology, interactions between host and pathogenic microorganisms, and the clinical and epidemiological consequences of these interactions.

Dental Neuroanatomy

This is advanced economic course in international trade. The first part of the course covers the basics of why countries trade, what explains the pattern of trade that we observe and what are the effects of trade on welfare and the distribution of income. The second part of the course covers issues concerning trade policy and looks at the positive and normative effects of trade policy and trade agreements as well as investigating topics of current interest.

Applied Phonetics

Study of the phonetic structure of the English language with requirement of mastery of the International Phonetic Alphabet. Emphasis will be placed on phonetic transcription, and application will be made for students interested in communication disorders, communications, telecommunications, and theater.
