Job Title: Assistant Scientist
Reports To: Lily Styles
Department: Supplements
Location: US - Lexington
 
1.   Job Purpose
 
The Assistant Scientist performs routine laboratory procedures in sample extraction and basic instrumental analysis under the direction and supervision of an experienced scientist to provide, as part of a team, high-quality analytical chemistry service to LGC’s customers. The Assistant Scientist may also assist in technical training and lead and/or support the development of new methods and procedures.
 
2.   Key Responsibilities
 
Perform extractions on product or biological samples to isolate drugs and drug metabolites
 Maintain and operate instrumentation (e.g., clinical analyzer, HPLC, LC/MS, GC/MS)
o Perform routine maintenance
o Monitor equipment to evaluate performance and to diagnose malfunctions
o Troubleshoot and repair instrumentation as needed and identify when to contact vendor for assistance
 Perform enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
 Receive, access and log-in client samples
 Prepare aliquots of product and/or biological samples
 Perform pH and specific gravity determinations
 Follow documented procedures to produce results in a timely manner
 Work in accord with regulatory standards, e.g. ISO17025
 Prepare reagents and reference materials for use in chemical analyses
 Strict compliance with chain of custody procedures for all forensic samples
 Responsive and willing to perform additional analyses as and when required
 Maintain work-related documentation (e.g. laboratory records, test results) in hard copy and/or electronic form according to laboratory protocol
 Participate in the tracking of supply, reagent and reference material inventories and initiate purchase requisitions where necessary
 Organize, clean and maintain workspace
 Under direction of higher-level scientists, learn higher-level functions (e.g., protocol development and implementation) and perform more complex analysis procedures
 Contribute to the work of the team in a flexible manner
 Perform additional non-routine work as and when required
 Other duties as assigned

 B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline
 Computer proficient, especially with Microsoft Office products

 Ability to read, comprehend, and speak English

The Optometric Technician is responsible for the preliminary pre-vision testing for each patient utilizing state-of-the-art digital equipment prior to the patient being seen by the Optometrist. The position is also responsible for the management of excellent customer service at the front desk in order to ensure an efficient operation of the practice. 
 
 
Vision Pre-Testing Responsibilities
 
·      Completes the patient health questionnaire through direct questioning and immediate input into computer EHR system
 
·      Tests and determines the preliminary prescription of each patient through use of the iProfiler (Auto-refractor)
 
·      Completes testing of each patient’s current glasses prescription utilizing the Lensometer
 
·      Completes the non-contact tonometer test to screen for glaucoma
 
·      Tests color and stereo vision as needed, or as deemed necessary to test visual acuity for all patients
 
·      Takes a picture of the patient’s retina through use of the Optos Daytona camera
 
·      Ensures that exam rooms are filled
 
·      Cross-trains to cover the front desk position (patient check-in, check-out, insurance verification, customer service) when the front desk staff member is not available
 
·      Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned
 
 
 
Front Desk Responsibilities                                                     
 
·      Confirms appointments to ensure doctor’s schedules are filled
 
·      Prepares daily schedule with insurance pre-authorizations, light data entry and filing for electronic medical records system
 
·      Greets patients and ensures a high-level of customer service
 
·      Communicates with waiting patients in the event that one of the Optometrists encounters a delay
 
·      Maintains the front office in a clean and orderly manner
 
·      Facilitates patient flow for Doctor’s schedules/availability to accommodate walk-in patients, and collect fees for services
 
·      Manages patient referrals
 
·      Facilitates calls to pharmacies regarding patient prescriptions
 
·      Opens and closes the office when needed and/or requested
 
·      Answers telephone, completes patient appointment reminder calls and responds to office emails in a professional manner
 
·      Cross-trains to cover the vision pre-tester position to assist doctors with vision pre-testing when needed or requested
 
·      Conducts follow-up calls to patients when contacts are ready for pick-up
 
·      Maintains knowledge and skill of contact sales information including brand, pricing, rebates and sales
