Research In Rehabilitation & Health Sci

The purpose of this course is to provide a critical review of the current practices in research methodologies in the rehabilitation and health sciences and investigate the consequences of selecting various research methodologies and analytic strategies. Topics will include a review of qualitative, quantitative and mixed method research designs. The advantages and disadvantages of the various designs will be examined in relationship to the various aspects of the bio-psycho-social- environmental model of human functioning, disability, and health across the life span.

Telehealth Professional Practices

This distance learning course uses a systems-based approach to discuss the various iterations of telehealth across the lifespan and within diverse settings. Influencers to the adoption and implementation at the consumer, provider, organization, community and policy levels will be discussed with special attention paid to cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic influencers. A model for developing, implementing and evaluating a telehealth program will be presented. Practices promoting interprofessional practice will be highlighted.

Dissertation Residency Credit

Residency credit for dissertation research after the qualifying examination. Students may register for this course in the semester of the qualifying examination. A minimum of two semesters are required as well as continuous enrollment (Fall and Spring) until the dissertation is completed and defended.

The purpose of the Professional Seminar, Academia & Beyond, is to expose students to the missions, structure, governance, culture, and daily realities of academia, and other work environments. It is intended to help students prepare for careers in academia or other work environments. The goal of the course is to provide students with both theoretical and practical views on employment after graduation.

The purpose of the Professional Seminar: Grant Writing is to expose the student to the process and product of grant writing. Students will become aware of the agencies and foundations that support research, training, and special projects related to the rehabilitation sciences, the disciplines of communication disorders, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, athletic training and health services research. Students will prepare a grant proposal written to their agency of choice.
