Do you need expedite your track to graduation with summer courses? The College of Arts and Sciences is offering a multitude of summer course options, and has a simple website to help you choose which class will be best for you.

The A&S Summer Course Kick-off Event aims to promote these courses and the new website. The event will take place at noon Wednesday, March 27, at four locations: Student Center, White Hall Classroom Building, the Thomas Hunt Morgan Biological Sciences Building, and next to the Mining and Minerals Resources Building by the main walkway to William T. Young Library. Representatives from the college will provide information on summer courses.

Representatives will also hand out beach balls with codes on them; students should enter these codes on the A&S summer course website for a chance to win prizes such as iPod Shuffles, UK sweatshirts from the UK Bookstore, UK tailgate tables and UK folding chairs, among other exciting prizes.

The A&S summer course website provides a comprehensive list of courses available, broken down by several different categories. The site allows students to search by a variety of specifications, such as online courses, 300+ courses, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, languages, pre-law, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, science for nonscience majors and UK Core. The website also provides short descriptions of each course, and when available, a description of the instructor.

The website also allows students to narrow their search to courses taught during Summer I (four-week session lasts from May 10-June 7; six-week session lasts from May 10-June 21) or Summer II (eight-week session lasts from June 9-August 4; six-week session lasts from June 23-August 4), as well as courses that span across both summer sessions.

Mark Lawrence Kornbluh, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said he encourages students to take a trip this summer and go places with A&S online courses.

"Learn about Japanese culture, astronomy, oceanography, Greek and Roman mythology and many other subjects from home or abroad," Kornbluh said. "This is a perfect opportunity for students who want to continue their studies or explore new topics. Online courses also offer plenty of flexibility for busy summer work schedules. With over 50 courses, A&S has something for everyone – from anthropology and biology to political science and statistics."

Students are encouraged to check course pre-requisites, APEX and discuss summer registration with their academic advisors.
