Hello! My name is Palak Patel and I am from Hopkinsville, KY. I am a senior majoring in Biology on the pre-medical track and part of the Lewis Honors College. My future goals include going to medical school and becoming a pediatric oncologist.
In addition to being an ambassador, I was a S-STEM and STEMCats Peer Mentor, a tutor at the Biology Learning Center, a Lewis Launch Leader, a member of Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical co-ed fraternity, and UK’s Bollywood-fusion dance team Kentucky Karana, Director of Socials for the Indian Student Association, and the Director of Social Media for the Student Health Advisory Council. Currently, I am involved in undergraduate research in Dr. Esther Black’s laboratory where I study protein-protein and protein-mRNA interactions during the translation process in non-small cancer lung cells. This research will work towards creating better and more effective cancer therapies. Previously, I mentored alongside Dr. Stephan Voss on the process of regeneration in axolotl in a BIO 199 lab. In my free time, I enjoy trying new foods in and around Lexington, reading, and spending time with my friends.
I have loved my time at the University of Kentucky and studying biology and other academic disciplines. I have had some amazing opportunities to allow me to grow not only in my academic career, but also personally. If you have questions about anything within the College of Arts and Sciences or anything else in general, please do not hesitate to reach out!
