My name is Haley McManus, and I am from Dayton, Ohio, where I went to Xenia High School. I am currently a senior and pursuing a dual degree in neuroscience and psychology, with a minor in pharmacology. I aspire to attend graduate school for a neuropsychological PhD program post-graduation with a specialization in substance use disorder treatment. Most of my time is spent attending courses and working with Dr. Gipson-Reichardt's lab in the field of substance use disorder with the College of Medicine. I am currently co-heading a project about the repurposing of cimetidine, an acid-reflux medication, as a potential opioid withdrawal symptom reducer. I spend my free time with friends, my cats, working out, boxing, reading, and listening to music. After obtaining my PhD, I aspire to enter into the career field of substance use rehabilitation, where I would love to work as a neuropsychologist to help develop individualized treatment strategies for people struggling with addiction. After graduating high school and visiting the University of Kentucky, I immediately knew Lexington would be the perfect fit for my undergraduate career. The College of Arts and Sciences has truly been the backbone of my university experience and has played a critical role in uncovering my passion for understanding the disease of addiction and finding ways to combat the opioid epidemic in today's world.
