Nicole, originally from Glenview, Illinois, has dedicated her career to the fields of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and English as a Second Language (ESL), along with teaching various Teacher Training courses. Her journey into linguistics and education began during her travels through Central America, where she discovered a passion for language and teaching.
She specializes in phonetics and phonology, working with both second language learners and English speakers interested in linguistic theory. Her teaching combines academic rigor with practical application, helping students understand and engage with the complexities of language sound systems.
Outside of her academic work, Nicole enjoys spending time outside and exploring new places, always accompanied by her best friend & Papillon, Bucky. She finds solace kayaking on the Kentucky River (and other waterways), and enjoys thrifting and antiquing. Her interest in language extends beyond the classroom, as she continues to study additional languages to broaden her linguistic perspective.
Nicole's impact extends not only through her teaching and research but also through her personal commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of language and culture. Her enthusiasm for English has left an indelible mark on students and colleagues alike, embodying a lifelong dedication to the art and science of language and education.
