Hi Everyone,
My name is Ashton Long, and I am from Salyersville, Kentucky (far east KY). I am a sophomore studying neuroscience and double-minored in biology and pharmacology on the pre-medical track. I plan to one day become a physician. In my free time, you can find me hanging out with family and friends, watching Netflix, doing pilates, bible journaling, or reading a good book.
One of my favorite aspects of the University of Kentucky is the campus's many clubs and organizations! There are many ways to get involved on campus. In addition to being an ambassador, I am a member of the medical fraternity Phi Delta Epsilon (PHIDE). I am a member of the organization MEDLIFE, which focuses on bringing medical care to underdeveloped countries. In January 2025, I will participate in the organization's yearly trip, and we are going to Costa Rica. I am also part of multiple organizations focusing on bringing healthcare to rural areas, such as HealthCare Cats, HealthCare Cats Outreach Committee, ACTION, Appalachian Health Initiative, and Kentucky Rural Health Association. Furthermore, I shadow physicians at Central Baptist to gain a better insight into the medical field.
I chose to attend the University of Kentucky because of all the opportunities it offers to students. Another reason I chose the university was because I had the chance to join a fantastic program called Singletary Scholars through the Lewis Honors College. In the future, I want to inspire the next generation of students to believe that it is okay if everything does not go according to plan and that there are always multiple ways to achieve your dreams, regardless of what life may throw at you.
