Speaker(s) / Presenter(s):
Tracy Campbell, history professor

The History Department is launching a virtual History Symposium! Once each semester, we will invite you to an informal but in-depth discussion with our faculty experts on topics of broad interest and appeal. We’ll send you a short pre-circulated reading that will help focus our discussion and give you something to think about in advance, if you have the time. (And if not, no worries – please join us anyway)!

Our first symposium is Tuesday, October 27, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. (EDT) with Dr. Tracy Campbell, who will chat with us about his wonderful new book, The Year of Peril: America in 1942 (Yale). In it, Tracy explores a theme that really hits home right now – how a nation and a people respond to a time of crisis.

Click here for a short piece that Tracy wrote based on the book, as well as here for a brief chapter from it. And for those of you hankering for more, you can purchase the hardcover, Kindle version, or audiobook here.

Space is limited, so please register here to participate. You will have an opportunity to submit questions in advance or during the live Zoom conversation. We’re looking forward to a great conversation!
