This course is covers engineering entrepreneurship. Students will learn about the history of engineering entrepreneurship and meet several successful UK College of Engineering alumni whom are also successful entrepreneurs. Students will work in teams of 2-3 and form their own companies based on a novel engineering invention of their own. They will learn about intellectual property from a former UK engineer turned patent lawyer and develop a Business Model Canvas and basic prototypes called Minimal Viable Products. Students will compete in a required pitch contest and will be required to participate in local entrepreneurial extracurricular activities such as 5-Across, Startup Weekend and Undrcvr Lex.

A detailed investigation of a topic of current significance in electrical engineering such as biomedical instrumentation, digital filter design, active networks, advanced electrical devices, digital communications, display of electronics. May be repeated, but only three credits can be earned under the same title. Only nine credit hours may count toward degree requirements. A particular topic may be offered at most twice under the EE 599 number.
