The Kentucky Young Writers Summer Colony (English)
June 20-24

The Kentucky Young Writers Summer Colony is an intensive weeklong program held at the University of Kentucky, College of Arts & Sciences. The Colony is offering three program levels for students going into middle and high school. Level one will be for students going into grades 6-8 and level two will be for students going into grades 9-12. Level three is for those students that attended the 2015 KYWSC.

The Colony offers writers the space and time to read, write and engage serious writers from around the world. Lead by the distinguished faculty of the University of Kentucky’s Creative Writing Program, the Colony offers workshops in fiction, poetry and nonfiction. Learn more about KYWSC >>

Camp LingoCats (Linguistics)
June 6-10

Camp LingoCats is an exciting adventure into the study of language. We will be learning new alphabets, exploring the history of old words, talking about the importance of language in our families and communities, performing experiments, playing games, making t-shirts, going on scavenger hunts, and much more. MapCamp (Geography)
June 6-10, June 13-17 and June 20-24

A week long day camp with exercises in map making and outdoor geo-challenges. Attendees will participate in the ancient craft of cartography, build digital interactive maps to share with the world, and conduct campus treasure hunts with GPS-enabled mobile devices. Learn more about MapCamp >>

Video/Making Camp and Video/Game Camp (Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies)
June 20 - 24 (Video/Making Camp) and June 27 - July 1 (Video/Game Camp)

Video/Making Camp is a place for kids to learn about and explore their creativity with digital technology. Kids will expand their abilities and deepen their understanding about how digital video technology functions in the world around them while they make their own videos and tell stories and express ideas. Video/Game Camp is a place for kids to learn about and explore video games as a way to tell stories and express ideas. During this camp, kids will expand abilities and deepen their understanding about how video game technology functions in the world around them. Campers will play games, made videos about them, and create their own games. In both camps, they will also learn how to use rhetoric to communicate their ideas in effective and substantive ways.
