Note:
Topics include: Major imaging modalities (e.g., X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound), important image databases, fundamental methods in image processing and quantitative extraction of image features, image reconstruction, image registration, classification, anatomical structure segmentation, landmark detection, recent developments in deep learning and applications in medical imaging. Each topic will be taught by a mix of theories with a focus on applications. Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding about: The functioning of different medical imaging systems The processing of medical images both in terms of geometrical transformation and filtering The application of image reconstruction and interpolation algorithms The selection of appropriate methods based on pattern recognition to solve standard imaging problems The correct usage of machine learning and deep learning algorithms in the context of medical imaging The development of reliable software to implement solutions to previously mentioned topics What is involved in building models learning from medical image data Collaboration within the team for a project and writing the final report (almost like a research paper for graduate students)
