The course offers an exciting journey through the space exploration of the solar system exploring topics ranging from vastness of space, how spacecrafts work and visit planetary bodies and their moons, followed by an interactive exploration of planets and moons using online telescope of slooh.com. Throughout the semester, students will delve into the fundamentals of planetary science, studying the composition of planets and moons, orbits, gravity, and spectroscopy. The class will also touch on historical debates and scientific evidence for the geocentric (Earth- centered) universe vs. heliocentric (Sun-centered) solar system and examine important details of celestial bodies like the Sun, terrestrial planets, giant planets, asteroids, and comets. The course integrates online homework assignments and two exams to assess students' understanding of the material. By the end of the semester, participants will have gained a comprehensive understanding of space exploration, planetary science, along with practical experience in astronomical observation and analysis.
