This is a survey course in the sociocultural foundations of sport reflecting interest in specialized areas of sport announced in advance. Students in this course will study classical and contemporary sociological and cultural theoretical concepts that are relevant to a critical cultural analysis of sport in an U. S. American context. After the successful completion of this course, students will be able to explain, discuss, analyze, and identify the ways in which power and ideology impact sociocultural issues faced by sport managers and their understanding of sport as a cultural practice.
