This graduate course surveys the political, economic, and social aspects of countries located in regions of the world collectively known as the Global South, or the "developing" world, which represents approximately two-thirds of humanity. This course is concerned with factors that have historically affected (and continue to affect) the domestic and external affairs of these countries. This course begins with an examination of the socio-economic and political development experience of the various regions, to include topics such as race/ethnicity, public health, religion, and domestic and regional security. The course then turns attention to the foreign affairs of the countries of these regions, with special emphasis on South-South and North-South dimensions.
