This course is designed to present an analysis of issues related to the role of physical therapy in long term care. Course emphases will include the implications of financing models, payer mix, the role of the federal and local governments, trends in delivery models, utilization of appropriate skill mix, and decision making related to cost and service availability. Consideration will include both home and institutional settings in relation to care provision. Included in these implications are rehabilitation science questions related to physiologic impact of aging, prevention/wellness, disease and injury processes, and therapeutic interventions/strategies.
