Meet Jennifer Ellis

I have been married to my husband, Judd, for over 11 years and we have two little girls, ages 8 and 10.  We have a beagle name Petey, a cat named Lucy, and a bunch of fish.  I moved from my hometown in Eastern North Carolina (located in the “inner banks” as it is now called) to attend graduate school at UK and to be closer to Judd. My life is very busy with the little ones and there is not much time to spare (you should see my ‘mommy calendar’!).  The College of Arts and Sciences Advising unit became my home away from home seven years ago and prior to my career in advising, I was a state vocational rehabilitation counselor for the KY Vocational Rehabilitation Department and The KY Office for the Blind.

What do you do in your spare time? In my spare time, I enjoy live music with my husband. Over the years, we have agreed that we enjoy small venues, such as The Mercury in downtown Louisville. Anyone ever heard of G. Love and the Special Sauce? We love their music and they sounded great at The Mercury! We also have some friends who play in local bands so we try to get out and support them when we can.

What is your favorite movie or book? One of my favorite books: “The Lord of the Rings” by J. R. R. Tolkien. It also happens to be one of my favorite movies.

Are you a cat person or a dog person (or do you like another species entirely)? It is hard for me to decide whether I am a dog or cat person as we have both and love them dearly, however, I lean toward being a dog person. Our cat is somewhat feral and enjoys slapping the kiddos around from time to time and loves to freak out about 1am. Petey is just a chubby, lovable knuckle head that enjoys snuggling and you can’t get much better than that.

What is your favorite food? Shrimp and cheese grits. The best is located in Pauley’s Island, SC.

Have you ever had a brush with fame? The rapper, Sean Combs (also known as Puff Daddy, and P. Diddy), winked and nodded at me coming out of first class after we landed in Atlanta. I was told he had a restaurant in the downtown Atlanta area and was in town visiting. Eat your heart out Jennifer Lopez!
