This course focuses on the primary care nurse practitioner's assessment, diagnosis and management of common chronic health problems of adult and geriatric individuals. Emphasis will be on differentiating a variety of signs and symptoms and interpreting data to formulate differential diagnoses. The use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care will be emphasized. The impact of chronic health problems on the family as a whole will be analyzed. In addition, the primary care nurse practitioner's role as a collaborative member of the health care team will be evaluated.
