Introduction To Managed Care & Principles Of Medicaid

This is a distance learning course with online post class quizzes and a final project in addition to once-weekly course meetings. The managed care pharmacy elective course will provide an overview of managed care pharmacy and understanding how managed care pharmacy impacts the health care system. There will be a special emphasis on Medicaid and introducing relevant topics such as the 340B drug program, understanding federal and state rebates with drug pricing with a focus on Medicaid. Also, students will have the opportunity to explore pharmacy careers within managed care. This course will include guest speakers, lectures, group discussion, weekly post-class quiz questions and a final presentation. By course completion, the student will obtain knowledge of managed care pharmacy that can be a valuable preparation for experiential education and career opportunities in a variety of practice settings, including a managed care organization, hospital administration, pharmaceutical industry, and community pharmacy management.
