This course examines the economics of hemp production and its supply chains. The course first introduces the economics of hemp and the supply chains for its products including the production of grain, fiber, and essential oils in the United States and abroad. The course then examines the storage, transportation, processing, financial, regulatory, and consumer sectors of this developing industry. Lectures are supplemented with class discussions about farm-level production costs, market structure, uncertainties in the market, and how hemp compares in revenue and sustainability to other alternative crops.
