This course is an introduction to Pediatric Dentistry with emphasis placed on prenatal, baby oral health and the developing child. A detailed analysis of development of the primary and mixed dentition, including odontogenesis will allow the student to understand how the dentition and skeleton evolves for the child. Emphasis will be placed on clinical and radiographic examination of the pediatric patient including recognition of common oral pathology and oral habits seen in the developing child. A preventive philosophy will be emphasized and initiated in the baby oral health program and follow the child through the mixed dentition stage of development. Emphasis will also be place on antibiotic coverage with analgesic management for the child in discomfort.
