Note:
The University of Kentucky Art Museum houses over 4,000 artworks in its permanent collection, but how many public artworks are there on campus? The truth is, nobody knows- it could be hundreds or even thousands. Project 13 seeks to compile the university's first-ever comprehensive public art catalogue. Over the Spring 2023 semester, members of A-H 399 will take part in Project 13, working as a team to scour almost every public space on UK's campus for art. This course will focus on team communication for art historical research projects as well as archival methods and best practices. Rather than learning through lectures, readings, and exams typical to a traditional art history course, we will learn by working in the field and contributing to a research project. Ten hours combined fieldwork and classroom work per week are required, including outdoor walking on campus, surveying buildings, and taking photographs with a smart device. Prerequisite(s): must have successfully completed one art history class. Interview and consent of instructor required for enrollment. Interested students should contact Sydney Mullins directly at samu236@uky.edu to schedule an interview. Please put A-H 399 in the subject line.
