The purpose of the Professional Seminar: Grant Writing is to expose the student to the process and product of grant writing. Students will become aware of the agencies and foundations that support research, training, and special projects related to the rehabilitation sciences, the disciplines of communication disorders, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, athletic training and health services research. Students will prepare a grant proposal written to their agency of choice. This class is designed to give the students an initial exercise in grant writing and there is a lot of one- on-one time with course directors scheduled. The end product of this class will be an actual grant proposal, which will receive peer review through a mock study section in the last class session. This course is a start in the grant writing process and further experience with grant writing is highly encouraged. For a more detailed and comprehensive study of grantsmanship, students are encouraged to do an Independent Study or Research Apprenticeship with a faculty mentor in their area of research interests.
