Note:
Guerrilla Art, Interventions & Social Practice. Creative Social Practice blurs the distinction between life and art, utilizing various strategies of representation, dialogue, and interaction. This course focuses on the intersection of one's artistic voice and its expression in public space, taking our artwork out of the studio and into the public sphere, while considering the role of the artist in the social fabric. We will view, discuss, and critique a variety of public artworks, and research the current discourse around social practice, site-specificity, and the politics of space. In this investigation into public art and social engagement, students will learn the techniques and strategies used in Interventional art while developing their own creative ways to engage in the public sphere. They will make work about current social and cultural issues that are relevant to them, while developing projects that are both individual and collaborative. Credit for this course can be petitioned towards the DMD degree if appropriate. Prerequisites - Sophomore status, recommended that all Studio Foundations classes be completed.
