Training in legal research, legal writing, legal reasoning and analysis, legal citation, and oral advocacy. In the legal research portion of the course, students receive training in how to approach basic research tasks and how to use a variety of print and electronic resources for performing research. In the legal writing portion of the course, problem-based writing assignments are used to train students in effective legal writing, legal reasoning and analysis, and legal citation, and to introduce students to oral advocacy. Students are exposed to some of the types of legal documents that are commonly used by lawyers in practice and the different legal audiences for those documents. The four hours of academic credit for this year-long course are given in the Spring.
