Gibson Bioscience is looking for a Microbiology Research and Development Associate to join our team.
 
This Microbiology Research and Development Associate will design, perform and report on supervised experiments using microbiology techniques as well as other applicable methodologies leading to new products and/ or process improvements and/ or custom solutions requests. This position is generally required to apply education and work experience to conduct focused research thoughtfully, collaboratively and efficiently with high integrity. The associate will assist with development and production of products for customer requests that do not fall within the scope of any current product lines and/or are not products that can be produced by the Custom Production department.
 
·        Assist with development, manufacturing, quality control (QC) of microbial and/ or molecular products and transfer necessary details to other function units (Production/QC) as needed.
·        Perform basic and advanced microbiology techniques including microbial culture, enumeration, isolation, organismal propagation optimization, and identification using traditional and rapid methods, plate streaking, colony counting, biological staining of microorganisms, CFU determination, and related other clinical & industrial microbiology techniques.
·        Possess a willingness to learn new techniques (microbiology and other areas of biotechnology, especially molecular biology relevant to the project and/ or overall R&D needs).
·        Manufacture test lots and analyze product performance for R&D functions according to the appropriate DMR, policies, and procedures.
·        Perform new product research and development under supervision.
·        Document research to support new product design controls, validations, verification, qualification, and specification/performance and statistical analysis as they apply to the company’s products and according to policies and procedures
·        Fill out and record all applicable production documentation.
·        Assist with development and production of products for customer requests that do not fall within the scope of any current product lines and/or requires the capability of the department.
·        Write or review new department SOPs/update existing department SOPs as necessary.
·        Collaborate, support, and communicate on a regular basis with project teams and members of other functional areas. Communicate with manager/ supervisor regarding results and custom specifications when necessary.  
 
·        Master’s degree in relevant field with 1-year hands-on experience (e.g., biology, microbiology, virology, cell biology molecular biology, food science) required.
·        Knowledgeable on aseptic techniques.
·        Knowledgeable with formulations and basic chemistry techniques.
·        Knowledgeable on serial dilutions and statistical calculations.
·        Working knowledge of cell culture (mammalian and/ or insect cell lines) would be plus.
·        Ability to work with and understand numbers and numerical sequences. Specifically, be able to perform calculation in terms of microbial serial dilutions, enumeration (CFU, genome copy no. and others) and statistical analysis of datasets.
·        Working knowledge of internet programs and the Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook.
