Hera Biolabs is seeking an animal technician to provide daily husbandry of laboratory animals to include health observations, handling and restraint, feeding and watering, changing cages, and sanitizing animal procedure rooms and equipment. These duties will be performed using autoclave, necropsy equipment, and laminar flow hoods.
Duties will progress to animal identification, breeding, collecting biological samples, and administering medications. The technician will assist researchers and veterinary staff as needed, working closely with the study manager, vivarium manager, senior scientists, and other animal technicians.
All assigned study procedures will be performed in accordance with good laboratory practice regulations and standard operating procedures. This position may require weekend or holiday work on a rotational or as needed basis.
Duties (include, but are not limited to):
· Follow all appropriate animal husbandry procedures as required for genetically modified animals for: animal observations, restraint, and room sanitation.
· Perform clinical and behavioral assessments and work closely with veterinary staff to resolve health issues.
· Collect fluid and tissue specimens.
· Assist in facility preparations for inspections.
· Maintain and document inventory of supplies, feed, waters, cage materials, and lab materials; assist with ordering when necessary.
· Assist with standard operating procedures preparation.
· Pack and receive shipped animals.
· Assist with surgeries and pre- and post-operative care.
· Assist in necropsy and health history assessments.
· Upon demonstration of proficiency, perform rodent dosing procedures by all common routes including oral, intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, and intravenous.
