Specialty pharmacy is a relatively new and rapidly evolving area of pharmacy practice. As more specialty medications come to market and their utilization expands, it is important that students are familiar with various aspects of specialty pharmacy practice. Additionally, specialty pharmacy touches on many diverse areas of pharmacy practice and as a result this course will expose students to a variety of practice specialties, including infectious diseases, hematology and oncology, autoimmune diseases, and many more. Students will not only learn about the clinical management of specialty disease states, but also about how other stakeholders like payors, pharmaceutical manufacturers, government agencies, and more influence specialty practice.
