Intensive English Program

General Program Information

  • Classes meet Monday to Thursday on the University of Kentucky campus.
  • Classes are interactive and include:
      • Homework
      • Reports
      • Presentations
      • Participation
      • Tests and quizzes
  • Students receive 20 hours/week of instruction:
      • Listening/Speaking
      • Reading
      • Writing
      • Grammar

 

Study Time by Starting Level

  • Below Level 1: about 18 months.
  • Level 1 or 2: about 12 months.
  • Level 3 or 4: about eight months.
  • Level 5: about four months.
  • Note: It is normal to repeat a level. Learning English takes time.

 

Changing Your Level

Continuing Students:

  • Must have all A grades.
  • Must take the iTEP test before orientation.
  • Cost: $24.
  • Select “University of Kentucky - Center for English as a Second Language” to send scores.

New Students:

  • Must take the iTEP test before orientation.
  • Cost: $24.
  • Select “University of Kentucky - Center for English as a Second Language” to send scores.
