This course is designed to introduce current concepts in pediatric dentistry. To allow the student to feel comfortable treating oral pathology in the child patient. Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of pediatric dentistry, including: 1) behavior management and guidance using nitrous oxide sedation, 2) local anesthesia for the pediatric patient 3) restorative dentistry for the pediatric patient 4) pulpal therapy for the primary dentition and young permanent dentition 4) traumatic injuries for primary and permanent dentition 5) anomalies of the developing dentition and orofacial structures, including cleft lip and palate, 6) space management of the developing dentition, 7) care for the medically compromised child, including diabetes and asthma, 8) care for special needs, 9) recognizing the signs of child abuse and 10) and treating the child and adolescent patient.
