Advanced Clinical Management Of Temporomandibular Disorders

This 12-month course is designed to reinforce the clinical and didactic knowledge established in OFP 636 and deepen the understanding and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders. More complex patients with temporomandibular disorders will be diagnosed and managed by the student. In addition, this course will advance the clinical and didactic knowledge regarding how other orofacial pain disorders affect the patient's temporomandibular disorder. Upon completion of the course, the student should be proficient in the assessment, treatment planning and treatment execution for patients with variety of complex temporomandibular disorders. Emphasis will be placed upon thorough history taking and clinical examination of patients with temporomandibular disorders and associated orofacial pain disorders employing clinical procedures, prescribing medications, writing referral orders, and ordering specific imaging modalities and laboratory procedures. Students should be able to use information resources (i.e., books, journal articles) to thoroughly understand the role of the dentist in chronic complex temporomandibular disorders and the frequent comorbid conditions and diseases encountered during their clinical experiences.
