A study of theories, concepts, and research related to complications during the maternity cycle will be explored. Emphasis will be on common variations in normal, and deviations from normal. Focus will be on effects of the complications on the woman, fetus, pregnancy, labor, birth, and family as well as the effects of pregnancy, labor, and fetus on the complications. The theoretical aspects of nurse-midwifery management will be stressed in relation to the care of women with complications during the maternity cycle.
