This course provides an overview of the characteristics and instructional needs of individuals with disabilities in music education, music therapy, and other inclusive music settings. Students will be introduced to laws governing special education and disability in the United States. Universal Design for Learning principles and their application in music contexts will be addressed, including multiple means of engagement, representation, action, and expression. Music engagement with gifted learners and individuals with disabilities across the lifespan will also be covered. A field experience is required.
