Construction, analysis and interpretation of mathematical models applied to problems in the natural sciences. Physical problems whose solutions involve special topics in applied mathematics are formulated, various solution techniques are introduced, and the mathematical results are interpreted. Fourier analysis, dimensional analysis and scaling rules, regular and singular perturbation theory, random processes and diffusion are samples of selected topics studied in the applications.
