World Heritage: Culture, Nature, Values

This course will critically explore the concept of world heritage, its theoretical underpinnings, the policy environment in which it exists, and the opportunities and challenges created by gaining world heritage status. The course will examine international and domestic applications of the concept of world heritage. The course will include an optional trip to one or more world heritage sites. Sites chosen for travel will vary from year to year, and may be domestic or international. Students participating in course travel will be responsible for a travel fee, which will reflect the nature of the course trip.
