Issues In Family Sciences

The scientific study of the family with a special emphasis on Family Systems Theory. Current research and theory as it applies to Family Systems will be explored. Topics covered will include other important historical and contemporary theories related to family structure and processes, historical trends in marriage and family life, gender role theory, sexual intimacy, friendship and love, parenthood, communication and conflict, managing economic resources, divorce and remarriage, human abuse, adult child interactions, family roles and strengths. Students will analyze contemporary family issues and take informed, written positions on those issues. This course meets the required Family Systems content for the Child Life Certification.
