Computer Replacement Policy

Staff

For A&S Administrative Staff

The College will provide one standard replacement Windows desktop every five years

Current standard specs include:
  • 256 GB SSD
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Intel Core i5 processor
  • Out of box support for three monitors
  • 5 year warranty
For staff that have computing needs beyond the standard model (such as staff who have dedicated workstations in more than one location), their department/unit will need to cover the additional costs.

Departments will be responsible for funding computer replacements for their research or teaching lab staff.

Faculty

A&S will provide one standard Windows or Mac replacement office desktop every five years.

Current standard Windows specs include:

  • 256 GB SSD
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Intel Core i5 processor
  • Out of box support for three monitors
  • 5 year warranty

Current standard Mac (mini) specs include:

  • 256 GB SSD
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Apple M2 processor
  • 4 year AppleCare+ warranty

If a faculty member wants a desktop outside these two standards, CaTS will provide a credit amount up to $1000 towards the purchase of the desktop of his or her choice (Dell or Apple).  If the faculty member does not have or want a desktop (either provided by the college or their department), CaTS will provide a credit of up to $1000 for the purchase of a laptop.  These credits will not build if a faculty member decides to forego the replacement for longer than five years.  Once new computer equipment is received, old College-provided computer equipment needs to be returned to CaTS for redistribution or surplus.

PTIs, Post-Docs, and graduate students will not be included in this replacement plan but will be eligible to receive desktops that cycle out of faculty and staff offices.

Chair (or other) multiple office spaces

The college will provide one workstation per faculty or staff member. When faculty members become chairs, CaTS will assist with moving the faculty computer to the chair's office. If the faculty member wishes to maintain computers in both offices, the department will be responsible for purchasing a computer for the chair's office.
